Our Story

From the Eastern Himalayas to Your Table

Organic Treasures is a small company based in Sikkim that brings traditional foods of the Eastern Himalayas to tables across India. We work with home-based producers, farmers and small kitchens in the region, and we take care to describe our products honestly and clearly.

Why Organic Treasures Exists

Many of the foods that define the Eastern Himalayas — fermented greens, preserved bamboo shoot, regional chillies, cow ghee — are made by hand in homes and on small farms. Much of this craft stays close to where it is made, and is rarely seen far beyond the region. Organic Treasures exists so that these foods can travel to kitchens elsewhere, while the people who make them are reached directly rather than through long, obscure supply chains.

Our Connection with Sikkim and the Eastern Himalayas

We are rooted in Sikkim, in the Eastern Himalayan region. The area’s climate, high rainfall and fertile foothills shape its food: mustard and radish greens that are fermented and sun-dried, bamboo that is preserved when the rains bring new shoots, round cherry chillies that grow around the hills, and dairies that make ghee as a staple of the mountain kitchen. This is the food we care about, and it is where our sourcing begins.

Our Foods

Our range is small and focused. It includes pure cow ghee, traditional fermented and preserved foods such as gundruk and taba (fermented bamboo shoot), Dallay Khorsani chillies, and a traditional sumac berry preserve known locally as Bhakimlo ko Chuk. We would rather do a handful of foods well than offer a long list of products we cannot stand behind.

How We Source

We source from home-based producers, smallholder farmers and local kitchens across the region. Our aim in sourcing is simple: to connect the people who make these foods with the people who want them, and to make sure the producers are fairly reached. Where we can, we share what we know about a product’s origin and preparation, and we are honest about the details we cannot yet confirm.

Our Standards

We treat accuracy and transparency as the foundation of the brand. We do not use words like “organic”, “wild”, “pure”, “chemical-free” or “traditional”, nor any certifications, unless we can substantiate them. We describe our products as they are, flag what we still need to confirm, and invite customers to ask us directly about any batch. A genuine regional food brand should be able to explain, plainly, what it sells.

Looking Ahead

We are growing gradually. A mushroom cultivation initiative based at our Siliguri operation is currently under development. It is an area we are excited about, and it will only be offered to customers once we have real, sellable product and inventory. Everything we add in future will follow the same standard: genuine food, honest origins, and clear information.
